ABOUT OUR WEBSITE
Minor change on February 16, 2022, in Privacy Category to clarify language and add Cookie name description. No changes in other sections from June 28,2021 wording.
Cookie Policy
This section is
designed to provide you with information about our web site data collection
practices.
In two
paragraphs, our Cookie Policy boils down to the Chateaux du Lac website not
tracking individual visitors. We count visitors as a group and look to see
which pages attract the most visitors. These statistics show us what
information is and isn't of interest to visitors. This allows us to adapt
the site to our visitor's interests.
Our Cookie and
Privacy policies are not passed on to web sites you visit through our web
links. Each web site has its own policies, and you should review that
information as you select various web sites to visit.
While explained fully later, our Privacy Policy is that we do not know who you are. We assume you are either a resident, owner or someone interested in moving to Chateaux, simply because otherwise this would be a very boring site for you to visit.
We never ask you for information, so we have no way of knowing who you are. Almost. One of the pieces of information your browser gives away is your IP number. Every device on the internet has it's own Internet Protocol number. This is discussed in the Security section of our Privacy Policy.
DETAILS
(Speaking of being bored!)
Our Cookie Policy constitutes an integral part of our Privacy Policy. We do not track individual visitor information, other than to monitor which pages are viewed on our site, and if the browser has visited this site previously. We track this information so we may see which pages are relevant and which pages are not. We look at total counts of visitors, not individual statistics.
We may use up
to three types of cookies while we view how well this site is working and
if there are enough visitors to keep the site available. No use paying for
website domains and hosting if no one visits.
Here are
three types of cookies a site might use when you visit, and why we use them:
1.) Strictly
necessary cookies – these cookies are necessary for a website to function
properly, to improve security and to prevent fraudulent activity. These
cookies are controlled by our website hosting service, not us.
2.)
Analytics / Performance-related cookies – these cookies allow us to assess
the performance of our Chateaux du Lac website.
3.)
Functionality-related cookies: These cookies tell us whether a visitor has visited our site before and to identify the pages (topics) in
which visitors may have the greatest interest.
We make no attempt to
identify you.
If you do not
allow these cookies, your visit will not be counted in our statistics, but
it should not prevent the site from working for you. If you have used a Do
Not Track browser setting, we will honor
that request.
There could be an issue with
cellphone visits if you elect to block session style cookies, such as the
Function cookies (3) mentioned above. If a cell phone changes
cellphone tower connections during a website visit, the cell phone IP address
could change. Without a cookie number to follow on your device, a website
might lose who you are when your IP address changes. Some links may not
show properly and you may be counted as a new visitor
to the site more than once.
Our Cookie Policy is not followed by the websites we link to on our pages. Review the
Cookie and Privacy policies of those individual websites if you visit those websites.
We are using a third-party to maintain the visitor count. They do use additional cookies
to see if you have visited one of their other websites. We do not request,
and Statcounter company does not provide us with that information. You can read
their entire Cookie Policy.

HOW COOKIES WORK (Seriously, you are still
reading?)
Where are these
blasted cookies we talk about?
A cookie is a small data file that is sent to your device’s web browser when you visit a website. This file (Cookie) is stored on your device.
Cookies usually include an identification number that is unique. Whenever a visitor lands on a website, the web host peeks at your device's browser folder to see if there is cookie data from a previous visit to the site. If the web host finds a matching cookie on your device, the site knows your browser has visited before.
(Next three paragraphs added Feb 16, 2022.)
Why is a computer cookie called a ‘cookie’? The term “cookie” refers to data passed between your computer or phone's browser and the website you are visiting. This data may help the website remember your activities.
This little data file was named 'Cookie' as a computer programmers' humorous spin-off from the fortune cookie at your local oriental restaurant, which carries a message inside.
Another reason is that your browser leaves little bits of data at each site as you travel around the internet. One might say that you are leaving little cookie crumbs on each site as you travel.
The 'cookies' we use at https Chateaux du Lac dot com are considered Session
Cookies. They help in navigation and visit totals. You can have your
browser automatically delete Session Cookies when you leave any site, or a
few days, weeks, or months later. These controls are on your device in your
web browser app.
We no longer use passwords here, but if you remove cookies on your
device from a website where you have your password stored for quick entry,
the site will not recognize you on your next visit and you will have to re-enter that
information.
If you continue to visit our Site without changing your settings, we will assume that you consent to such use of cookies.
We reserve the
right to modify this Policy from time to time, so please review it
regularly.
Privacy Policy
- Security
The security of
personal information should be important to all of us, and while we at
Chateauxdulac dot com never ask you for any information, personal or otherwise,
other sites might.
While we strive to use commercially acceptable
means to protect your visit, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
Besides using updated quality virus and malware detection APPS on your
phones and computers, always visit websites using the HTTPS
designation, not the older HTTP. Using HTTPS engages additional encryption and security measures when connecting with that website. It is not fool-proof. Like locks
on doors, this will keep the average nosey person out, but not the
dedicated criminal.
Web browsers are not good at keeping secrets. They're worse than my grandmother.
Browsers can provide information such as your computer’s Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, browser type, browser version, the pages of our site that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages and other statistics.
IP addresses are not random. They are mathematically produced and allocated by a division of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
ICANN is a non-profit organization that was established in the United States in 1998 to help maintain the security of the internet and allow it to be usable by all.
The Internet Protocol address does provide your location right down to the device you are using on the web. Law enforcement and other agencies with oodles of specialists can locate a device with this number.
Changes To This

This Privacy
Policy is effective as of February 16, 2022 (replacing June 28, 2021
version), and will remain in effect except
with respect to any changes in its provisions in the future. Changes will
be in effect immediately after being posted on this page.
